Chamber Submits Letter re: Canada Border Services Agency Office Closure

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) recently announced that it is proposing to move its Peterborough office to Trenton effective April 1, 2011. This has ramifications for a number of Peterborough businesses who will now have to travel over 100 km’s to do a simple transaction. With the current expansion of the Peterborough airport, The Chamber is asking CBSA to delay its decision, in order to establish how the airport expansion will affect the levels of service required, and to explore alternative ways of delivering CBSA services. Chamber Announces New Workshop - Create Your Business Mojo

The Peterborough Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce a new professional development workshop. "Create Your Business Mojo" is a 2 part series and will run on Monday, September 20th and Monday, September 27th. The times will be from 8 am - 12 noon. In the workshop participants will discover how to distinguish and create plans using the 4 competencies of media and public relations, marketing and sales to produce specific and measurable results.

Chamber Submits Letter RE: Highway 407

The Provincial Government recently announced that the planned extension of Highway 407 to Highway 35/115 will now be split into two phases, the first phase ending at Simcoe Street in Durham Region. This has two key outcomes:

1. An inappropriate volume of traffic will now be funneled onto Municipal roads in Durham;
2. A key transportation link for the Peterborough area has now been delayed.

Years of preparation and study are simply being set aside in favour of a two-phase approach which delays the expenditure but causes significant problems in the meantime.
The attached letter has been sent to Premier Dalton McGuinty and MPP Jeff Leal. We encourage all members to write their own letter of support for completion of the project in one single phase. The correct addresses are contained within the attached letter.
